It looks like it will be all change for many UK employees in 2015, with a reports saying that over one third of workers are hoping to change their job this year. With some 37% of employees saying that they hope to change their current job it looks like this year will be a busy one for recruiters.
This year’s figures are twice those from this time last year (19%) and just over three times that of 2013 when 13% of workers expressed a desire to change their job.
This desire to change jobs may well mean that opportunities start to open up as people move on, although there is also likely to be greater competition for jobs as employees look to jump ship and head elsewhere.
The results come from a survey conducted by the Institute of Leadership and Management, who said the results show “the return of ambition to the UK workforce.”
The results of the survey indicated that 59% of those who were looking to move jobs hoped to find a better opportunity to progress their careers, while 56% admitted they were looking for a better salary. Around 25% said that they wanted to move on as they felt under-appreciated by their current employer, while half of those questioned said they wanted a more interesting role.
Chief executive of the Institute of Leadership and Management, Charles Elvin warned employers that the “improving economy and more fruitful job market” would mean that “it’s likely they will have to work harder to keep their talented employees.”
Elvin added, “All staff want to feel that they are appreciated by their organisation, so it’s crucial that companies actively recognise the efforts and talents of their employees. Companies may want to adapt to this new improved climate, by acknowledging where staff have excelled and moulding opportunities for them to advance.”
