Year 10 students at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic College in Burnley, Lancashire, have been given a fantastic opportunity to develop their business skills with the help of Young Enterprise and local company New Call Telecom Ltd.
Burnley-born entrepreneur Nigel Eastwood, the chief executive of New Call, has launched a £50,000 scheme to find the town’s next business leaders. Blessed Trinity was lucky enough to be selected from other schools to receive funding and valuable business advice from New Call’s top man. They will also take part in workshops run by Mr. Eastwood who said, ‘I want to encourage a future generation of entrepreneurs as much as I can.’
Year 10 pupils have set up a business called ‘Dezign’ which produces and sells tie-dye T-shirts and exclusive Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day cards. It was set up with the help of Young Enterprise‘s ‘Company Programme’, a competition with regional, national and European finals to aim for.
Jonathan Schofield from Young Enterprise said, ‘It’s a great opportunity for Blessed Trinity pupils to develop their business talents, whether it’s finance, marketing or sales. We are pleased New Call is supporting this.’
Year 10 pupil, Mirisha Patel said, ‘It is a lot of hard work running a business. We spend three hours most nights after school working on it, but the ten of us are working as a team. We all want to make money and go as far as we can in the competition! We are confident we will be successful!’
