Training starts early for Fire Service recruits

BY EMILY LYNCH

Although you can’t officially join the Fire and Rescue Service until you are 18, Skills for Fire & Rescue has developed apprenticeships to help kick-start possible careers for young people with an interest in joining this vitally important service. An apprenticeship in the Fire and Rescue Service might be the perfect way to discover whether it is the career for you.

Skills for Fire & Rescue has developed two training pathways: the Community Safety Apprenticeship, in which apprentices work as Community Safety Advisers for the Fire and Rescue Service, and the EFSO Apprenticeship Framework. This particular apprenticeship is recognised and valued by potential employers, developing the knowledge and skills needed for a job in the Fire and Rescue Service. However, it is down to each individual Fire and Rescue Services to deliver such programmes.

If these apprenticeship options spark a flame of interest, for further information either get in touch with individual Fire and Rescue Services, see this list with links to various Fire services in the UK or check out our article on careers in the emergency services which features information on the Fire Service, Ambulance Paramedics and Law Enforcement Forces.
