The Results of Ofqual’s annual survey of the perceptions qualifications is published today. So, what do you think of A-levels and GCSE qualifications?

- 264 managers
- 1008 members of the public
What did they think of GCSEs?
70% said that GCSEs were well understood
72% think that GCSEs are a trusted qualification
70% said that GCSEs are good preparation for further study
40% think that GCSE standards are maintained year on year
38% think that the marking of GCSEs is accurate
38% said that GCSEs are good preparation for work
66% were aware of the new 9 – 1 grading scale for GCSEs – rather worryingly, only 32% of employers surveyed were aware of the new grading system, which could be problematic for people applying for vacancies. Only 29% of the general public were aware of this change!
What did they think of A-levels?
61% said that A-levels are well understood by people
80% think that A-levels are a trusted qualification
79% think that A-levels are good preparation for further study
47% think that A-level standards are maintained year of year
41% said that the marking of A-levels is accurate
